We are half way through ONE THING, so if you are keeping up to date, you will have just done days 21- 25 and read Psalms 63, 68, 69, 71 and at the end of the week read Psalm 73. In the booklet the little devotional thought draws our attention to v 28 of this Psalm – “But as for me, it is good to be near God.”
I hope that you really get this – to be near to God and to pursue his presence is the best thing you can do with your life. Why? Because he is eternal and he outlasts every one and everything else. To plug into his agenda for our lives is critical for us. Christianity is not about programmes or policies, it is about an ongoing, daily relationship with the living God. At our members meeting I shared a strapline from a USA baseball team – “The game is on. We have to play it. We might as well win!” In life, we might as well ‘win’. And God has said that the ONE THING is to pursue his presence. We have been noticing that as we have learnt together also on Sundays. Last Sunday morning for example we looked at Psalm 61 – where the psalmist says, “Lead me to the Rock that is higher than I” He was in a wilderness place, on the run from his son Absalom. He needed a physical rock for shelter from the burning sun but ultimately he needed the one true ROCK – this was the ONE THING for David. Then on Sunday night (14 th ) Matty Campbell from Baptist Youth preached powerfully from Psalm 84 and in both of these services we sensed God’s presence and power among us. Don’t forget that all of the ONE THING messages are available for you to catch up on podcast or on your app.
This week there are some other great Psalms to read and mediate on. Join your Life Group on Wednesday night or join for prayer in the minor hall with others, if you are not in a Life Group. Let us keep pursuing the ONE THING!
